IT Report

The process and methods you go through to get the whole assignment completed.

In this assignment we are supposed to work in pairs and my group member is Sin Yee. Both of us worked together and helped one another in every way to get this assignment done. In fact, this is my first time learning about HTML. Being a first timer, I faced many challenges in creating our own webpage. I have to refer to the notes and tutorials that Ms Sha gave us. Without the notes, we could not possibly complete this assignment. The overall process we took to complete this assignment was quite long as we have to consider what to put in our webpage but I have to say that we have learned something new!

The technologies/tools you learn and use during this assignment, and their advantages/disadvantages.

The technologies and tools which I have learned and used for this assignment is none other than the HTML codes using a notepad, a blog and of course the use of a free web server to upload our webpage. HTML contains a series of tags which can only be read by the web browser. For example, if you have the correct tags, you can easily tell the browser what to display on a webpage. It is like a simple command given to the web browser. For example, if you want your text to be italic or bold, you can always type in (/b)(to make it bold).

The experience/difficulty in debugging the HTML codes in getting the output you want.

Debugging the HTML codes was not an easy task at all. It was a real challenge to me and my group member. Our notes will be right in front of us so that we can refer easily when typing in the HTML codes. Any mistakes in the symbols or a typing error can result in a different output. We often find that we have forgotten to close a tag or mistakenly key in a different tags. Like I mentioned, a single typo error can result in a different output. Also, we faced difficulty in uploading the images to our webpage. We tried several techniques but all still the images refused to appear. However, with the help of some friends we manage to get it done. I would say that creating a HTML codes is very time consuming and need to be done carefully in order to get the correct output.

The experience/difficulty in searching/choosing the suitable web hosting server.

As for the web hosting, we decided to use bravehost for our web hosting server. Choosing the right free web server wasn’t that difficult for me and my group member.

The experience/difficulty in uploading the files to the web server.

The process of uploading the files to the web server was not that difficult after all as the procedures are all clearly stated and labeled. All I need to do is to follow through step by step.

The process and experience/difficulty in creating a blog and learning how to use a blog.

As for the blog, I find that creating one is not difficult. Basically the process is simple. First, I created a new gmail account. Then I choose the blog title and design that I would like to display. This can be changed later on if I want to. After all this is done I can start to post my report. Personally, I feel that passing up our reports through blogging is something new and can be considered as a cool idea. Instead of printing it out we can post it in the blog and this can help to reduce the usage of papers.

Conclusion should include lesson learnt, and what would you do differently if you are going to work on this assignment again.

As a conclusion, I learned how to use HTML and HTML codes to create a webpage. Each code has different functions. I also learned how to use a free web hosting server besides creating a blog. In my opinion, this assignment really taught me a lot about how to create and design your own webpage. For example, many businesses today have their own webpage and without these entire HTML codes, you can’t possibly create your own webpage. If I have a chance to work on this assignment again, I would like to add more interesting design to my webpage and perhaps do a little more research on HTML tags and codes. Last but not least, thank you Miss Sha for teaching us.
